Big tunes
The best music tunes of August
1. Underworld
Scribble (Netsky remix) (Underworld live/Cooking vinyl)
We have to admit we weren't sure if a musical marriage between High Contrast and Rick & Karl would work - but the insane crowd reaction in Japan has convinced us of ‘Scribble's clout. Their biggest tune since “Two Months Off”.
It goes: "You give me everything I need"
Best mix: Netsky
Out : August

2. Duck Sauce
Barbra Streisand (Fool’s gold)
Armand and A-Trak are really spoiling us with two new Duck Sauce slates - but like my mum, we like Babs best. The synth is pure Roxy Music 'Angel Eyes'; Armand's "Barbra Streisand" vocal is deadpan. Biggest AVH tune since 'Bonkers'.
It goes: "Whoo oooh oooh oooh oooh - Barbra Streisand!"
Best mix: Original
Out: August

3. Mark Knight
Devil Walking (Toolroom)
It's been out for a little while now but there's no denying “Devil Walking”, which takes its musical cue from “One Night In Bangkok” by Murray Head and rides it all the way to Ibiza for four months straight Big and - for once - quite clever.
It goes: "I can feel the devil walking next to me"
Best mix: There's only one
Out: Now

4. Felix da Housecat
Thee Anthem (Pryda Friends)
Nice to see someone like Eric Prydz picking up on Felix's synthetic flex, though this has all the hallmarks of a classic Prydz production, which may be why he snapped it up for his new Pryda Friends offshoot label. We love the eight-minute original but both mixes rule.
It goes: "Wheeeee nnnnnnnnnerrrr"
Best mix: Prydz’
Out: End of July

5. Visitor
Los Feeling (Alan Braxe remix) (Vulture)
Think Zoot Woman remixing “Call On Me” - in other words, a monstrous Alan Braxe moment to be proud of. This has a hint of Kim Carnes “Betty David Eyes” about it too: gotta love that. Felix and Grum are both supporting, and we imagine Annie Mac will soon be too.
It goes: “Will you go..."
Best mix: Alan Braxe
Out: July

6. Jack Beats
Revolution (Cheap Thrills)
Massive new single from the Jack Beats boys (with “Out Of Space” on the flip), this time with a drop the size of the Grand Canyon. This is one for the Mixmag terrace at Cream. Think Riva Starr at his most raucous - bleeps are good, bleeps are good!
It goes: “The revolution is here!"
Best mix: There's only one
Out: August

7. WTF & Dead Prez
Bigger Than Hip Hop UK (Breakbeat Kaos)
One of the biggest and baddest tunes EVER in hip hop comes back for a second salvo. Still sounding like Outkast at their angriest, the new version has a sleazy dubstep vibe. Sidney Samson also mixes.
It goes: "I'm sick of that fake r'n'b on the radio"
Best mix: Full vocal
Out: August

8. Mark Ronson & The Business Int’l
Circuit Breaker (Columbia)
With a video based on “The Legend Of Zelda” and the song itself a shuffling electronic instrumental hip hip groove - think “Apache” - all this needs is a remix from Soulwax or Fatboy Slim. Make it happen, Mark!
It goes: "Takatakatakawak"
Best mix: There's only one
Out: On 'Record Collection' LP, due Sep

9. Darren Emerson & Jamie McHugh
Gracelands (Detone)
Massive for Sasha at the recent Big Beach festival in Japan, this comes on like an updated take on Mori Kante's classic “Yeke Yeke” with some cool stabs circa “Strings Of Life”. Christian Smith delivers the mix for the Space cadets.
It goes: "Dooh dooh dooh"
Best mix: Original
Out: July 19

10. The Dirty Projectors
Stillness Is The Move (Domino)
As the success of Yeasayer, Animal Collective and The xx in 2010 will testify, there's a lot of scope for winsome indie vocals in electronic music right now. Here's the next one to blow.
It goes: "On top of every mountain/ there was a longing/ For another even higher mountain"
Best mix: Lucky Dragons
Out: End of July
